Her father, Mr.Krishnaraj Rai, who is a marine biologist, and mother, Mrs.Vrinda Rai, a writer, belongs to the Bunt community of Mangalore. Mr. Aditya Rai, who is an engineer in the merchant navy is her elder brother. Before starting her career as Bollywood Actress, she was doing modelling. Aish became Miss World in 1994. She was married to Abhishek Bachchan, son of Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan on 20.4.2007. Aish made her debut with Tamil Movie, Iruvar in 1997 and entered Bollywood with Hindi Movie, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in 1999. She acted in Hindi, Tamil, Bengali and English Movies.
